I read all of the messages, and it kind of sucks you were ripped apart, but let me be the first to say that I was genuinely impressed by how you handled the criticisms and by your initial ideas. Being under 18 and all

I agree with everyone else that it's a good idea to get your feet wet with something a bit smaller in scale, and I have a suggestion.

Start a blog or a site where you pretty much do what you wanted; people can submit their comics/manga and what-not. However, limit the submissions to 4 panels. It'll be a collection of mini-comics, if you will.

They don't even have to be in color, or professional-grade. Just cool, local art people can enjoy.

I'm not talking out of my a$$ here; it's been done before, and very successfully too. Check out some examples:

http://www.cad-comic.com/cad/20021023 (that's issue one. Check out the recent issues too!)
http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2010/4/14/

I hope that helped some. Good luck in your endeavors! Crawl today, and fly tomorrow ;-)

Thanks!
That's some real good advice, I think I'll look into it!

Not a problem. If and when you set it up, let me know; I'd love to submit a thing or two.

I'd would do something if you published the magazine just for fun, if you want I could help you in some projects, I have lots not finished ones. I tried to make a site once and it failed, so you'd better research a bit before beginning, but I'm with you.

Using CAD as an example of anything other than how talentless misogynistic pedophiles can succeed is bad form. And PA and CAD are exceptions and not the rules, also.
Also their success did not come instantly. Penny Arcade's success is the result of over ten years of blood, sweat, and tears. CAD's "success" is the result of luck and catering to an audience that tends to be as horrid as the man himself. And even B^U's success was not instantaneous.

OK, so you clearly aren't too fond of CAD, jeez, don't pop a blood vessel.

Regardless, the point I was trying to send across was that mini-comics (4 panels) can appeal to manga/comic fans as much as full blown 27 page manga/comic books. WannabeMangaKa can start of with a collection of amateur mini-comics that may or may not focus on humor/story/etc. rather than professional-level drawing skills.

I like your idea, though people just simply attacked you mercilessly. Well, whatever they said, it's not that they're entirely wrong. To realize your idea is very hard, and it could be that your magazine will be swallowed by bigger "tides" and never reappear again.

The biggest concern for artist (for me at least) is that they never see the realization of the magazine. Since your idea is very raw and unplanned, they are scared. Perhaps that's why they were attacking you like that.

Having a website is a good plus, more over if it's a dedicated site for your gonna-be magazine. Especially if your magazine is an online one. It shows you that you are serious and people (or your gonna-be artist) will feel more relaxed.

The last is if you have any experience or past job in this kind of field? If you have, share with everyone. That way, they could see if you could be trusted. If you already launched several magazines, people will become more easily to trust and work together with you.

I merely call things as they are. B^Uckley is a wretched person, and CAD is a wretched webcomic. They are both as close to objectively bad as they come.

And you missed my point. I know what you were trying to say, and I disagree. The webcomic market is oversaturated. For ever Penny Arcade you have fifty billion ripoffs of inferior quality. Like CAD. CAD just managed to somehow scrape it's way out of the the general pile and reach some modicum of success. I'm not entirely sure how Buckley managed it, but I imagine it has to do with, as I said, the fact that his sociopathy tends to subtly attract other misogynists and suchlike. Also it's worth noting that Buckley has a very specific audience as demographics and other things have shown. He caters to a niche, and that niche is slowly but surely dying away as he alienates more fans, and as his fans start to reach adulthood and realize how bad his comic is.

I'm not ripping on CAD because I hate it - although I do - I am merely pointing something out. Penny Arcade is an anomaly and there aren't many others that are nearly as successful that follow a similar formula. CAD may be the closest but - as I said - Buckley is the result of luck and niche audience.

The average webcomic regardless of quality is doomed to die a sad and lonely death utterly and completely unnoticed by anyone except the creator and a small following, drowned in a sea of similar comics.

If you want to avoid that fate you can either take your chances and hope for the best, or better yet, do something new and dissimilar to increase your odds of being noticed amidst the sea of webcomics. Maybe go for some sort of really unusual art style (watercolors, anyone?) or something. Or do full blown single-issue comics online. Or something. My point is, again, that PA and CAD are exceptions to the rule and that their popularity and success at doing what they do does not mean you will find popularity or success emulating them and, in fact, their popularity and success is pretty much a big part of why you won't find any.

I think if you wanna work on the proyect you should get more people interested in your idea. people you know personally and not through a forum, or online friends that you know for a long time. a kind of manga that's been left behind and is quite popular between us young women is josei, and a portal about it would be a nice idea, though it might not be your cup of tea. take nana and youth gone wild for example, who doesn't like some drugs n rock n roll once in a while?
